GIOVANNI ANTONIO RIGATTI Solemn Vespers (1640)
Societas Incognitorum
Artistic director Eduard Tomaštík
In our thorough search for a worthy successor to Claudio Monteverdi, we come across the figure of Giovanni Antonio Rigatti (1613–1648), who shone like a meteor in his time. Unfortunately, he faded just as suddenly – at the age of 34, at the height of his creative powers. By that time, he had already published an incredible 11 collections of music, nine of which were sacred and two secular. His Festive Vespers, choral antiphons adapted for performance during Easter week, will be premiered in Brno by the vocal ensemble Societas Incognitorum with players on period instruments.
The concert will be performed without intermission.
