GIYA KANCHELI Exile for soprano and ensemble (1994), Czech première
Jana Vondrů soprano
Ensemble Opera Diversa
conductor Gabriela Tardonová
In this nearly hour-long composition for chamber ensemble, Georgian composer Gija Kančeli set Psalm 23 and poems by Paul Celan to music. In his own words, the composer attempted to set to music the temporary silence of sacred buildings when no service is taking place. The Czech premiere of the work will take place in the newly built Catholic church in Brno-Lesná, designed by architect Marek Jan Štěpán, a space that is eminently suited to this musical liturgy of silence.
The concert will be performed without intermission.
